Dear Student Authors:
I am happy to inform you that the Committee on Student Travel Support gave me its recommendations. I must apologize for the delay, but it was extremely difficult to select the students that will be supported to present their papers at the ICNN '97. We received more than 60 applications but our budget was limited to $20,000. This amount will also cover the registration fees of some local volunteers and the expenses of a student reception. The Committee's decision was based on the evaluation of each paper by the reviewers and the recommendation of the Area Chair. Our policy was to support solo authors by the amount of $800 and co-authors by the amount of $700. Given our budget constraints, we will be able to support 24 students to travel to the Meeting. In addition to this, we will cover the registration fee of 12 more students. The students that are eligible for support are shown in the list which follows. This list also contains 6 names that are not assigned any amount of money. The students in this list will be eligible for support in case some students already eligible for support are not able to attend the Conference. Each student must attend the Conference and present her/his paper in order to be eligible to reimbursement. It is also necessary that each student is an IEEE or INNS member or become a member during the Conference. I would like to thank the IEEE Neural Networks Council for the grant. I am certain this grant is an investment in the future of neural networks. In particular, I would like to thank Karen Haines and Mary Lou Padgett for their help. My thanks also go to the Chair and Members of the Student Travel Support Committee for spending a considerable amount of time on the selection process. Finally, I would like to thank all of you for presenting a paper at ICNN '97. I am really sorry we are not able to support the travel expenses of all of you that applied. I am looking forward to seeing you all at the Conference.
