TOUR #1: Space Center Houston (Return to Top)

A state-of-the-art education and entertainment complex designed by Walt Disney Imagineering. The magical adventure begins in Space Center Plaza where a space shuttle mock up welcomes you. Exhibits and demonstrations let you land a space shuttle by computer simulation, touch a real moon rock, and listen to communications between Mission Control and astronaut crews on board the space shuttle. In Destiny Theater, relive the great moments of the space program in the film "On Human Destiny." Adjacent to the complex is Johnson Space Center (JSC), home to the famed Mission Control Center and Rocket Park, the outdoor home of retired flight hardware too huge to house indoors. There will be a technical tour to JSC by NASA engineers. For the technical tour the attendees must be either US citizen or permanent resident.

TOUR #2: Moody Gardens (Return to Top)

Traveling to the Rainforest Pyramid at Moody Gardens in Galveston is an ultimate treat. Housing a tropical rainforest with waterfalls, cliffs and caverns, the 10-story glass pyramid, open daily, holds more than 2,000 species of exotic plants, animals, tropical fish and butterflies. Also on the grounds are the 3-D IMAX Theater, the white sand Palm Beach, the Colonel Paddlewheel Boat, the fascinating Bat Cave, and acres of lush gardens to explore.

TOUR #3: Theater Museum Districts (Return to Top)

Flocked by striking, contemporary architecture of downtown Houston, the Theater District covers ten square blocks of the city's central business district and is home to five of the country's most innovative performing arts companies. The Museum District, a lovely oak-lined area near Hermann Park an the Texas Medical Center, is anchored by the Museum of Fine Arts, the Contemporary Arts Museum, the Children's Museum of Houston, the nearby Menil Collection and the Museum of Natural Science. Two intriguing new museums to the area are the Holocaust Museum and the Museum of Health and Medical Science.

TOUR #4: Virtual Environment Technology Laboratory (Return to Top)

The Virtual Environment Technology Laboratory (VETL) is a joint enterprise of the University of Houston and NASA/Johnson Space Center. The laboratory's objectives include research and development activities utilizing virtual environments in (1) scientific/ engineering data visualization, (2) training, and (3) education. With a complement of over three million dollars in high performance computing and display equipment, and this region's only CAVE (a cube, ten feet on a side, with four display surfaces for total immersion), the VETL is advancing the state-of-the-art in virtual environment technology. The VETL is capable of displaying the visual components of virtual environments via monitors, stereoscopic head-mounted displays (HMDs), and projection displays. Demonstrations will include interactive immersive virtual environments in the CAVE and Flogiston "flostation" as well as 3-D modeling.
